Beetroot Juice

 

DESCRIPTION

Beet greens are rich in magnesium, beta-carotene, vitamin C and E. The root is rich in potassium, folic acid and the antioxidant glutathione. The colouring principles present in red beet juice are known as betaines. These are a type of amino acid filled with ammonia. Betanin accounts for most of the red principle. Plant chemists have found that this betanin occurs in red beetroot as a sulfur-sugar complex. It has a very strong taste and should be mixed with other juices. When taken alone in quantities of greater than a wine glass, beetroot juice could make one feel dizzy and nauseous due to a powerful cleansing action on the liver.

Beetroot juice builds and tones the blood. Beetroot juice has been suggested for women's menstrual problems and for hormone regulation during menopause, especially when combined with carrot and parsley.

Beetroot juice has the right ratio of sodium to calcium to hold the calcium in solution, reducing the incidence of formed deposits in joints and in blood vessels.

Beetroot juice is useful in the recovery from alcoholism as beets help restore liver function. The organic mineral salts rebuild tissue cells severely damaged by prolonged exposure to alcohol. Beetroot is basically a blood-building herb. It detoxifies the blood and renews it with minerals and natural sugars. Use beet juice for a sluggish liver and other liver ailments.

14 mg. calcium, 23 mg. phosphorus, 0.5 mg. iron, 43 mg. sodium, 208 mg. potassium, 20 I.U. vitamin A,
some B complex vitamins and 6 mg. vitamin C.
