With baby's Gastric Reflux there is a part or a total regurgitation of the contents of the stomach into the oesophagus. The oesophagus is the tube which joins the throat to the stomach. It
causes discomfort to the baby.
For many parents of 'reflux' babies, the reflux is merely a nuisance. The reflux may cause no serious medical problems and usually disappears when the baby is between
nine to twelve months of age.
Some babies experience more serious symptoms of reflux. It is important to ask your Doctor for advice if one or more of the following signs or symptoms occur: 1. Baby
does not sleep well and is easily disturbed. 2. Baby is extremely fussy. 3. Feeding problems, either (a) comfort feeding all day or (b) refusal to feed. 4. Baby appears very 'windy' or 'collicky'.
5. Baby whinges constantly, cries often and screams frequently. 6. Baby fails to thrive. 7. Baby experiences recurrent chest infections or persistent cough. 8. Blood appears in the baby's vomit.
9. Baby seems 'snuffy' and may gag often. |
