Bach Flower Remedies & Use

DESCRIPTION

As a practicing physician, Dr Edward Bach observed that there are many psychological types behind the various physical disorders. He then matched the flower remedies he had developed concurrently and produced the 38 Bach Remedies.

The remedies themselves do not use the physical material of the plant, but rather the essential energy, or the essence, held deep within the plant. This healing energy is extracted and preserved in a solution to be used. The energy works subtly by re-establishing balance within the individual, promoting resolution, harmony, and wellbeing. Bach insisted on "treating the patient not the disease". Consequently, the treatment can be a powerful and therapeutic tool when practiced correctly.

Similar physical symptoms can arise in large groups of people, yet not everyone has the same emotional make-up. It is important to treat the individual. For example, two people come down with a cold. One has been overworked for some time and may be feeling long-term exhaustion. The real issue may in fact be due to an underlying feeling of overwhelming inadequacy and responsibility at work, or in general. This would call for the remedy ELM.
The other may have had recent news of a severe illness in the family. The person declines rapidly into symptoms of influenza. The issues here would be mental and emotional shock. The most useful remedy here is STAR OF BETHLEHEM. Related issues of guilt and persistent fear for others may also require PINE and RED CHESTNUT.
Therefore, having a cold is not the real concern here. Treatment is concerned with the psychological state that is most evident; the physical complaint is of less importance when treating with Flower Essences.

It is fair to say that an infinite number of ailments, diseases, symptoms and mental/emotional states can be remedied. This includes anything from pre-exam anxiety, to skin disorders, asthma, arthritis and even terminal illness.
It is definitely worth consulting a practitioner adept in using Flower Essences. It is often difficult to self-prescribe. Many Naturopaths, Homeopaths and Herbalists are experienced in Bach Flower treatments.
